Signs of the Zodiac

Of all the choices available for themes in making up a charm bracelet, I like the Astrology theme a lot. Whether or not you believe that the stars and planets influence our characters, personalities, or destinies,  the symbols are a lot of fun and can make the basis of that Perfect Gift you want to give someone. You know, someone who means something to you whether as just a friend, family member, or as a soul mate. Someone you want to give a personal gift to that means something to both of you. Astrological symbols and figures are timeless and timely as a gift or something to personalize your own jewelry selection.

The practice of astrology began sometime around the 5th century BC, starting with the ancient Babylonians and Greeks and spreading from there. They saw the 12 signs of the zodiac divided into 4 Aristotelian element groups of earth, fire, water, and air or wind. Planets and their movements were associated with different parts of the body, so astrology had a big impact on medicine as it was practiced at that time. The zodiac signs corresponded with dates on the calendar, and the date that people were born on was believed to heavily influence their personalities, health, and every day lives. The first sign of the zodiac is Aries (symbolized by the Ram), while the twelfth and last is Pisces (the Fish). Here are the 12 signs and corresponding modern birth dates:

Aries the Ram – March 21 – April 20
Taurus the Bull – April 21 – May 21
Gemini the Twins – May 22 – June 21
Cancer the Crab – June 22 – July 22
Leo the Lion – July 23 -August 21
Virgo the Virgin – August 22 – September 23
Libra the Scales – September 24 – October 23
Scorpio the Scorpion – October 24 – November 22
Sagittarius the Archer – November 23 – December 22
Capricorn the Goat – December 23 – January 20
Aquarius the Water Carrier – January 21 – February 19
Pisces the Fish – February 20- March 20

Just like any other charms, these come in gold, silver, ceramic, wood and many other materials. They come in the Traditional Zodiac charms. You can also get them in the Italian Zodiac charms, which is particularly nice when making up a collection of zodiac charms that have special meaning to the wearer. And yes, you can even get Pandora Zodiac charms (also called European style charms).

Astrology is a fun hobby for those who are into something a little different. There are many websites devoted to astrology and horoscopes so you can look up each of the signs and read more details about personality traits, preferences, strengths and weaknesses, best partner combination according to zodiac sign and much more. Keep in mind that this is all a bit touchy-feely, so don’t get too carried away in believing in what the stars say! There’s nothing like common sense as your guide when you start exploring these areas.
